The Sound Of Christmas

Christmas | Amy Sullivan

So, if you follow me on Instagram you’ve probably heard me rant that we don’t play Christmas music at our house until December.  Strict rule over here!

The first time we listen to Christmas music every year happens when we are decorating for the holidays.

Listening to Christmas music is a sure-fire way to get into the holiday spirit.  It brings me back to the magic of Christmas as a child and just gives you that… FEELING.

When I was a kid my parents bought this crazy Christmas mix tape of some pretty terrible renditions of holiday tunes.  It became the standing joke and a tradition to play it while decorating every year, and as the cassette (that’s right) started to die, everything slowed down and made it even more hilarious.  A few years back my brother copied some of the tracks to CD so we could try to immortalize it forever haha!

My love for jazz in general definitely started with Christmas music as a child.  My Dad’s mom was into big band music and I’m sure that’s the first time I heard Sinatra.  There is NOTHING like Sinatra and Tony Bennett at Christmas.

When it comes to the serious business of Christmas music, we’ve got our usual albums that get played every year.

Here’s my must-have list!

Frank Sinatra // Frank Sinatra Christmas

Diana Krall // Christmas Songs (the artwork on this record is gorgeous too)

Tony Bennett // A Swingin’ Christmas Featuring the Count Basie Big Band, AND  The Classic Christmas Album

James Taylor // At Christmas (When he comes in with Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas in the movie The Holiday it kills me every time!)

Hans Zimmer // The Holiday movie soundtrack

The Christmas Classics Spotify playlist – often while we are entertaining and/or opening gifts!

Let me know what you listen to at Christmas below – I’d love to hear!  Pun intended ;)
